reset website back to start?

    Problem: working on creating a new blog site, and have weird artifacts such as naming conventions on menus that can’t be changed, or if i change them by deleting the menu and starting over, it caches the info and it comes back (yes, i’ve cleared my browser cache) I just want to get the site back to the default starting configuration so i can build back from there without having to do everything manually. There is no content yet, it’s in the design phase right now. Deleting the site and starting over apparently means i can never use the <domain>.wordpress.com address ever again as it will be retired out. Already found the links to empty out my site, but it doesn’t solve the problem, as it leaves all the formatting in place or destroys it which doesn’t leave me a default to work from.

    Hi! You are correct; deleting the site isn’t the way to go.

    Let’s focus on this:

    This will need a bit of troubleshooting as I haven’t seen it before.

    Can you create the menu you want, and save it with a name? Then update us here so we can take a look. Also, just to confirm, this is in fact for getthejoelk.wordpress.com, right?

    So I just re-created the menu I want, and now it seems to be alright… No explanation why. So now onto part2… Say i want to use the Hever Theme which is what is active right now. How do i “reset the page back to default” so that the initial design is back where it was instead of mangled as i’ve managed to make it?

    Ah, glad the menu issue is sorted.

    I’d recommend going here:

    https://wordpress.com/page

    Create a new page. Call it Home, or whatever you want. You can pick whatever template you like, too. Hever is one of the Home Page Template options which you’ll find by scrolling all the way down.

    Edit the page to replace images / add text / etc, and then publish it the page.

    Then, Go to My Site > Customize, and click on Homepage Settings. Select the page you just made.

    That should do the trick — want to give it a try? And you can delete your old attempt at that point under https://wordpress.com/pages .
