Resetting Website

When resetting a website and then importing a .xml file what gets imported? Will pages need to be re-created and/or photos need to be re-uploaded? Thank you!

    Hi there!

I’ll be happy to assist you with your questions! Generally speaking, when you reset a site, it deletes all content, including posts, pages, and media files. So, if you import content using a file, the content that’s on that XML file will get imported.

Can you tell us how you are going about importing using the XML file? Do you have an existing WordPress site that you’re planning to migrate to WordPress.com? Or is the site built using a different site builder?

Once I know more about your current setup, I will be able to assist you with specific guides.

    Thanks!

I am going to be using the import function for WordPress. I do have an existing website using WordPress.com. Thanks!

Thanks for clarifying! It’s important to understand that when you use the XML import feature, it will transfer your images and other media, but the XML files themselves do not contain the actual images or media files. Instead, they contain links to those files, which will be uploaded to the new site after you import the XML file following the steps provided.

For this reason, the site you exported from must remain publicly accessible and intact until all images are present on your new site. You’ll know when all images have been copied over when the number of items in Media is the same on the new site as what you had on the original site. An export from a deleted site won’t import any media.

    I hope that clarifies things!
