Resize embedded youtube video

  I’m trying to embed a youtube video onto my page using the syntax explained in http://en.support.wordpress.com/videos/youtube/.

  I would also like to resize the video so that the video does span across the max width of my page in the middle. Ideally I would like to have text on the side of the video to describe the video etc.

  I tried the options such as this to specify my video size.

  [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JaNH56Vpg-A&w=320&h=240]

  But this is not so helpful as the youtube area still span across the full page in the middle, and only the size of the video within the youtube area is changed. i.e., you see black section on either side of the video.

  Is it possible to change the size of the actual embedded youtube area? Thanks.
