Resizing a large file size image to be bigger when posted

Re: Photo sizing:
I posted two photos (The post is called Fountain Motel). These images are about 2.3 MB. Even though the pencil icon edit is set to the largest size, the posted image is rather small. Why can’t I make it larger? Thanks Paul Goldfinger @Blogfinger.net

Hello there Paul!
When I view the Post http://blogfinger.net/2014/04/26/the-fountain-motel-same-sun-as-the-beach-come-see-us/, your image appears as large as the main content column allows. In my browsers, the images fill up the column width on the front page, as well as the blog post. And when I click on the image in the blog post, it appears quite large. So large, in fact, that my browser won’t even allow me to view it all unless its dimensions are shrunk. The problem is that 2.3MB, is too large of an image file size. Believe it or not, a smaller image file size will actually allow the viewer to see the whole picture when it is clicked in your post.
Additionally, If you don’t optimize your images, they can slow down your loading time quite a bit, especially on a blog like yours that includes lots of pictures.
My suggestion is to take a look at the following:

Thank you thatrobyn.
You are right. I was able to reduce the file size to 1.3 MB in order to be able to still click on the image and fill the screen. But reducing the sizing below that caused the clicked image to be too small.
And the posted size does fill the “main content column,” but it still appears smallish. I guess that’s as good as it gets given the width of the content column.
Thanks for the advice.

Paul, Great work with the resizing of the image. It looks terrific when I click on it and it fills the browser window.
While your theme has specific default settings for column width, if it’s important to you to change this spacing, you may consider adjusting the CSS code. You’ll need to learn a bit of code to play with formatting issues such as column width, but since you do have the Premium upgrade, you can utilize this service.
My suggestion, if you choose to give this a try is to look at the following documents:
