Resizing image

  • Unknown's avatar

For the last few days, I have been having problems resizing images in the editor. When I grab the corner of the image and drag it, the image size will change but when I go to “Text” edit the image size is still the same. If I switch back to “View”, the image is back to it’s original size. Also, sometimes it will add another copy of the image in the “Text” view which I have to delete. If I keep trying it enough times, I usually can get it to resize to the size I want.

Also, several weeks ago I noticed that when I am resizing the image by dragging a corner, it no longer shows the image size changes as I am dragging the image. This feature was always helpful in getting the image size the size I wanted it. Why was this taken away?

Changes have been made to the images editor. Have you checked the support documentation for image editing? http://en.support.wordpress.com/images/image-editing/#resizing

The images I am trying to re-size were inserted via a URL, they are not in the Media Library. The problem occurs trying to re-size the image from the new post “Visual” editor.

Just to be sure, do you encounter this issue at https://wordpress.com/post/ or have you been using the dashboard at https://tolleystopics.wordpress.com/wp-admin/ ?

Also send me a link of the post where you encounter this issue.

When I grab the corner of the image and drag it, the image size will change but when I go to “Text” edit the image size is still the same.

Could you please describe in more detail what’s “still the same”? what do you see and what do you expect to see instead.

    Looking forward to your reply.

The link I have been using is: https://tolleystopics.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post-new.php?post_type=post.

This problem started a couple of weeks ago. I begin a new post. From a blank edit screen, I “Add Media”, then “Insert from URL” and enter the link for an image. The images I have been using are larger than I need, so I shrink them in the editor by grabbing a corner of the image and dragging it to get the size I want. I judge the size I need by the pixel width and height. Originally, I could see this from the “Visual” view of the editor, but that is no longer displayed while dragging the image. I have to go to “Text” view to see the pixel width/height values. Sometimes, after I resize the image and go to the “Text” view the image width/height values have not changed and if I switch back to “Visual” view, the image size has gone back to the size before I tried to change it. This does not happen every time. Sometimes it takes several attempts before the image is re-sized. Sometimes another copy of the image (HTML “img” tag) is inserted while the original image size is unchanged.

When I added a new post today, I did not have any problem. So I don’t know if this issue has resolved itself or just didn’t happen today. I did have problems with this for several days before submitting this topic. I do know that I had never had this problem until after the image editing function was altered several weeks ago.

I’m glad you didn’t encounter any issues again.

I wasn’t able to reproduce the issue where the image values don’t change after resizing the image. However, I do notice that there is no pixels size shown when dragging and resizing the image in the visual editor. This was probably changed during the recent editor update. Our developers are aware of the needed feature requests and are looking to bring certain features back. There is no specific timeline for this though.

    Thank you.
