Resizing paragraph blocks

  • Unknown's avatar

Hey there! The issue I’m having trouble with is quickly resizing all of the text in my post. They’re split into different paragraph blocks, but when I try to select them all, I don’t get the option to alter their font sizes collectively. I didn’t have this issue before, and it’s only become a recent problem, so I’m wondering if something has been changed or whether I’m doing something different and not realising it.

    Thanks for the help!

  • Hello there,

    Many thanks for reaching out.

when I try to select them all, I don’t get the option to alter their font sizes collectively. I didn’t have this issue before,

Paragraphs are generally separate to each other, and each would have their own settings.

Usually, you wouldn’t be able to edit individual block settings in bulk.

Where you were able to change the font sizes together, can you tell me where this may have happened please? I suspect that there could perhaps be a soft return (new line in the text) or a classic block being used here.

I don’t remember what I did differently to what I’m doing now that made it work the first time, only that I’ve only very recently started having this issue.

If there isn’t a function to bulk resize blocks, what would be the best way to copy paste large posts from Google Docs into WordPress while keeping the fonts a certain size rather than the default?

  • Hi there,

If you have lots of posts from Google Docs that you want to move over to WordPress.com, I would definitely recommend the Google Docs Add On:

    https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-com-add-on-for-google-docs/

The add-on allows you to write, edit, and collaborate in Google Docs, then save it as a blog post on your WordPress.com site.

Please take a look at that option and let me know if that works for you.

    Thanks!

Sorry to say that didn’t work. I tried saving it a few different ways, but the doc was left indefinitely saving and never transitioned to a draft on WordPress.

  • Hm, that sounds odd.

First, please make sure that your browser is up to date: https://browsehappy.com/

If it is not, please try updating your browser or switching to a different browser.

If it is, please do these two things:

    1. Try clearing your browser’s cache and cookies.

    2. Try with all browser extensions or add-ons temporarily disabled.

Please let us know how each step goes for you, and which browser (and version of) you’re using if you’re still having trouble.

Temporarily disabling browser extensions worked in making a WordPress draft, but it didn’t fix the font issue, namely that it didn’t port over the font size.

  • Hi there,

I wouldn’t have expected the font size to come over (word processors and websites treat fonts differently, so font settings aren’t something that ports over easily from one to the other), but it was worth trying it to confirm.

But I’m afraid in that case the only way to do this is a paragraph at a time, for now. (Or using custom CSS code on the Premium Plan.)

WordPress 5.9 that’s currently being worked on over on WordPress.org will include features that allow you to modify aspects of your theme, including font size, globally for the entire site. So once that comes out you should be able to change the font size for your site once, and it will apply to every post/page on your site automatically.

WordPress 5.9 is planned to come out in January.
