Resonar post title not displaying

  • Unknown's avatar

I just published my first post to a blog with the Resonar theme and neither the title nor the featured image displays. See https://ashlandforestresiliency.wordpress.com/2017/08/31/setting-the-stage-part-1/. There should be a post title “Setting the Stage, Part 1.” Can someone help?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I see both the post and the image.

    Featured Image
Each post displays a full-screen Featured Image, which helps to visually tell your story. The large Featured Image is also used for a Sticky Post on your blog’s homepage. It works best at 2000px wide and 1500px high.

I forgot to add that I also see the post title.

    Setting the Stage, Part 1

If you live in Ashland, you’ve probably seen log trucks rumbling out of the watershed this summer. It might be easy to dismiss this activity as just “logging,” but did you know that removing these trees is crucial for restoring ecological health to the Ashland Watershed? To find out how, read on! Maybe you have a browser related issue. See here https://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/

Hmm, I don’t know what’s going on. I still can’t view the post title (which should be superimposed over the featured image). I checked all the recommendations on the browser issues page (compatible browser, cleared cache, cookies enabled, javascript enabled) and I’ve also had this problem on four different monitors on two different computers (Mac and PC) and in Chrome and Firefox.

    Hi evanbarrientos.

I have the exact same issue with my posts using the Resonar theme. All was working, but just in the last few weeks this issue has occurred. Not sure if it was a Resonar update that caused it.

It seems to be an issue where the post title and header image height is set to zero (if I inspect the element in Chrome the height is zero).

Seems also related to the zoom level. If I zoom out to say 50% then it is shown, but not on 100%.

Also, it is not an issue on mobile versions – they work as expected.

  • I see what’s happening here. Thank you @manustours for providing that detailed information.

Resonar has a couple of guides in place for how big your header image should be and how big your featured image should be:

Featured Images work best with 2000 wide by 1500 high.
Custom Header Image is 2000 wide by 320 high.

This information can be found on the Resonar theme page.

Based on what you are both saying the way the theme handles customer headers larger than 320 pixels high is to shrink the featured image.

I’ve called to staff attention with the modlook tag added to this thread. What you will ultimately need to do to shrink/crop your customer header images to 320 pixels high or less to resolve this issue. I’m calling for staff attention because it seems like the Custom Header image is a rule rather than a guideline (because not following that rule will cause the page to load incorrectly). Because of this it seems like the Customizer should not allow the Customer Header to exceed the height of 320 pixels. We will see what they say.

  • Hi @evanbarrientos,

I also see the post title over your featured image – let me know if you still do not. Seeing that you inquired about this a month ago, I want to make sure you are still not having the issue.

    @manustours,

Can you provide a link to a post of your that is having the issue? I would love to take a look how it appears on my end.

    Thanks!

  • Zooming in and out of the page allows you to see this behavior.

Here are some screenshots that show the problem:

    With Title:
    with title

  • Thanks, @xpurichan – that is helpful.

@manustours – so the behavior is happening for you when Chrome is zoomed to actual size?

For me the title does not display at 100% and higher and it does not display well at 90%.

    Hi @darnelldiblles.

My site is japan.raytec.com.au. The issue occurs on all of the post pages.

Yes, in Chrome the issue occurs at 100%. Neither the post title or the image is visible at all. Zooming out to 67% I start to see the title and header image, but I need to zoom out 50% for the full title and image to display.

I just tested on Edge and it does show as expected at 100% – the title and image is displayed. If I zoom in the issue starts to occur. i.e at 125% the image is partially visible and title not visible. At 150% neither the title or image is visible.

    Thanks for the assistance.

I’ve been testing it myself to recreate the issue. The problematic div:

    <div class="entry-header-background">

When I override the height on that div manually, the header always shows up.

In my testing on Firefox and Chrome, it’s sometimes showing up and sometimes not, even on the same screen width with the only difference being a page refresh.

    Good luck!

To throw in one more observation, this issue has something to do with cache.

For the sites of both @evanbarrientos and @manustours, the header loaded the first time I opened a post’s page. On reload, that div has no height. I cleared browser cache, refreshed, and it appeared. On reload, that div lost its height.

  • After lots of testing, we have verified (unsurprisingly) that we are dealing with a bug within the theme. I have filed a report for the bug to be fixed. Thank you all who tested and reported the issue. We’ll get it fixed and update you all ASAP.

    Cheers,
