Responding to Comments

Either post a comment back on the same entry, or navigate to their page and contact them if they have a Contact form. I just go with the comment option.
Here’s an example in my own blog:

You respond to comments left on your own blog by readers the same way they leave comments for you. You type your response into a comment box under the applicable post.

Thanks timethief! I have been a Blogspot/Blogger blogger for a longer period of time. Blogger functions a little differently – I just need to get used to the differences.

I too escaped from Blogger and I’m predicting that once you catch on to wordpress you’ll never look back. :)

Does anyone know if it’s possible to arrange it so you will get an email when someone comments on your blog?

I have a similar problem posting comments to my own blog. After five or six comments have been posted, WordPress will no longer accept a comment from me. I will type into the comment box, the cursor moves, but no text appears. And then all the buttons on the page are dead.
I have written to support and feedback 6 times and have received NO response from WordPress. Can someone else help me resolve this please? It is extremely frustrating.

Have you tried the cookie dance? Delete all your cookies and your browser cache and try again. Let us know if that works.

One other option that I have seen and like is to hit the ‘comments’ button on your dashboard, and edit each comment. You can change the font style so everyone knows it’s a reply.

Okay. I did the cookies thing, and that didn’t change the situation. Then I used the edit comments feature, and that works, but it’s basically a concession to an unresponsive WordPress; plus, readers have to click into the comments to see if there’s anything new to read. It’s a short-term solution in the meantime until I can get things working right, again.
I havent’t switched browsers, yet, because that’s such a big chance to actuate. I also use Internet Explorer, but that has its own issues. I have Safari, but as it was loaded on my computer, it operates through Classic Environment (Mac OS 9), and that’s not practical.
That’s what I know at this time. Thanks for any ideas you have.

what version of OS X are you running? It seems like replying to comments is the least of your problems if your version of Safari (which comes packaged with OS X) runs in Classic.
Try running a software update (found in system prefs). Also, IE for Mac has not been supported for years; MS stopped development on it ages ago.
For using wordpress.com on a Mac, i would recommend Firefox, Camino, or Flock as the browsers that will work the best. It’s not that big of a change to switch; you can import all your bookmarks, etc.

How can I change the order or my comments.. I want them appear descending… no asceding.. can any body please give me some help! I want the last comment appear at the begining..
Thanks!!

Hi there,
I’m new to WordPress, but think it’s great. Was wondering though, when I reply to someone with a comment, is that person alerted about my reply via an email or can they only see my reply if they log back on to my blog to check? I can’t seem to find an answer to this.
Thanks

Depends on how the blog owner has things set up.
I choose to moderate all comments on all of my blogs. Others just have their blogs set up so they are posted automatically. Still others require one approved comment and then the rest are posted automatically.
Some blog owners enable email notifications of comments, others don’t.
