Responsive Feature in Quintus

I’m using Quintus in an unpublished blog. Planning to launch next month. The content conforms to the responsive display on my phone; but my custom header doesn’t show completely. It appears to be stuck in the middle (horizontally). My customer header image is 1100 x 250 — as outlined in the theme description. Any ideas why this is happening? I don’t think linking to it will help because, as I said, it hasn’t launched. And it’s not my phone because my other blog that uses the Twenty Eleven theme displays properly (including the custom header). Thanks.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi mizzdonna – Quintus uses a background image for its header, so it’s best suited to an abstract, patterned, or photographic image where it’s not an issue if the full image isn’t displayed at some screen sizes.

Twenty Eleven uses a different technique for displaying the image, which is why its header looks different on mobile devices than themes like Quintus or Twenty Thirteen, which both use the background image method.

Hmm. Thanks for the detailed explanation. So if I wanted to continue with Quintus (not very likely — but if I did), what parameters would I go by to ensure that what I wanted to be displayed on mobiles would be captured within the confines of the background image Quintus uses for the header? Like how much of the middle section would I need to confine my graphics/text to? I include the blog name and tagline in my graphics. Thanks again.

There aren’t any parameters that would ensure that certain portions of your image would be displayed on different mobile devices. That’s why themes like Quintus that use a background image for the header are better suited for graphics that don’t have any text, logos, or other elements in them that don’t look right if cropped out of the image.

You’ll probably be happier with a different theme, either a theme that supports the site logo feature (list here) or one that does not use the background image method for the custom header, like Twenty Twelve.
