restore
-
My browser quit suddenly and deleted hours worth of writing. When I logged back on, WordPress asked me if I wanted to restore the last draft and I clicked that I did, but nothing happened and now I can’t find it anywhere. I’ve Googled how to get it back, but apparently can’t because of the beep beep bop business. Help, please!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

The classic editor retains 25 auto-saved post revisions but the new Beep Beep Boop editor does not. The post revision management system is not built into the new Beep Beep Boop editor, so saving the draft saves only the most recent version, but not previous versions.
Provided you did not create the post in the new Beep Beep Boop editor where it’s saved only on your browser, and is not auto-saved to the servers for your blog unless you click the save link once, you may be able to recover a lost post or page.
If you are using the new Beep Beep Boop editor please read this first:

http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/post-revisions/See also if applicable > restoring from trash http://en.support.wordpress.com/trash/#restoring-from-trash
To locate draft POSTS Dashboard > Posts > All Post > Drafts
http://conquerednewhampshire.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit.php?post_status=draft&post_type=postTo locate draft PAGES Dashboard > Pages> All Pages > Drafts
http://conquerednewhampshire.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit.php?post_status=draft&post_type=page(If you are referring to a Page then see here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/page-revisions/)
If you cannot locate a revision or restore from Trash then the content has been lost and cannot be recovered.
I recommend:
1. Always create your posts on the dashboard of your own blog at
Dashboard > Posts > All Posts > Add New
If you have cookies enabled on your browser your preference will be saved unless or until your clear your cookies, and it will take you to the classic editor automatically every time you create a new post via the drop-down menu in the black admin bar or edit a post via the edit button on the blog itself. You cannot deactivate the new Beep Beep Boop editor but you do not have to use it. For locating the ways and means of accessing the legacy or classic pages for creating posts, editing posts, and viewing stats see here > Navigating the Classic WordPress.COM interface http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2015/04/05/navigating-the-classic-wordpress-com-interface/
2. Immediately after creating a post and entering a title click the save draft link. Thereafter, “click save draft” frequently.
3. Always allow pages to fully load before clicking any other links.
4. Never leave a post or page open for content creation or editing and walk away from it, or open another tab in the same blog and work on something else while it is still open. Save it properly and return to edit it later.
5. Use an offline blog editor so you have backups on your own computer http://en.support.wordpress.com/xml-rpc/

Ok, so I haven’t published this yet, so there’ no revisions option that I can see. How do I use cookies to attempt to find it again?
-
Also, WordPress prompted me to restore, but when I clicked for it to do so, nothing happened. Is there a way to get that prompt back? Why didn’t it actually do anything?

If you cannot locate a revision or restore from Trash then the content has been lost and cannot be recovered.

Alright. Why doesn’t the “restore” prompt actually restore, though? It was a WordPress prompt, not a browser one, so something should’ve happened, right?

I do not have an answer to that so I tagged this thread for a Staff response. Please subscribe to it so you are notified when they respond. To subscribe look in the sidebar of this thread, find the subscribe to topics link and click it.

Just to be sure, this isn’t the post, correct?

I’m betting that might be a recreation of the post you’re referring to.
The “Restore” function should do just that; restore the post content that was lost. This post content is stored in browser cookies unless you click “Save” on the editor. When you visit wordpress.com/post, are you prompted with another restore message? Can you make sure you have cookies enabled on your browser? In Safari, you can check under Preferences -> Privacy.

That’s only part of it – the part that I had saved from the night before. There were about 1500 more words according to the counter before it closed. I do have cookies enabled, but I don’t get the “restore” prompt. I guess it’s just gone forever.

I’m really sorry – I took another look, but I’m not seeing any longer draft options. I’m not sure why the restore option didn’t bring back all of the content. I’m wondering if something occurred within the browser that stopped it from storing updated data. Either way, it’s understandably frustrating.
Can you reply back here if this happens again? Also, I would recommend pressing the “Save” button every so often to save the version of your post. That way, you’ll have a revision in case this happens again for some reason.

Will do, on both counts. I have finally passed my frustration and think I could tackle this entry again. I will DEFINITELY save obsessively.
