restore classic editor please!

We are sick of this, took ages to work round your default block editor now the classic option has disappeared altogether. I’m not paying 240 quid to install the plugin – I’m unemployed and live on 300 a month.

We don’t like gutenberg, it doesn’t suit the way we use the site, it’s counter-intuitive, clumsy and time-consuming, charging to remove it is abject disrespect to your users. You should make the plugin available free at least to existing users – ten years in our case – or preferably just put it back how it was, we’re not impressed.

and where’s the quick editor gone? Everything drags you to this gruesome block editor

  • Hello there,

    Many thanks for reaching out.

We totally get that the new editor takes some getting used to. Rest assured it is an improvement on the previous editor, mainly because there’s so much more you’re able to do with it.

Is there something in your particular you’re trying to build? We’ll happily offer some insights to help you get to where you would like to be.

    Many thanks in advance.

It’s all very well you assuring me it’s an improvement – for whom?

It isn’t if it takes longer to do the same thing, and if it’s so good why are users so desperate to get away from it and why are you charging a fortune to load the plugin?

Where is quick edit? useful for re-ordering posts and changing categories?
Where is the most used tags cloud?
Why can’t I select [open in a new window] from the picture editor?
Why can’t I drag and drop html?
Why does the cursor keep migrating to somewhere other that where I put it?

    My usual format is:

Link [open in a new window]
Picture [open in a new window]
    Text [justify]
Links [open in a new window]
    &c

I’ve had to write an html template for my posts and write them offline – big improvement.

It does nothing to address the other petty inconveniences, put it back how it was.

  • Hi there,

You can access the Classic Editor by enabling WP Admin dashboard pages. Here are the instructions to use the classic editor by enabling the advanced dashboard settings:

    https://wordpress.com/support/classic-editor-guide/#how-to-access-the-classic-editor

We definitely encourage to give the Block editor a chance but feel free to continue to provide feedback on the issues you are encountering with it.

    Thanks,

All very good questions. Its the total arrogance of WordPress in foisting these so-called “improvements” on people without asking if that’s what they want that’s the really irritating thing. I want my Classic Editor back and I don’t want to pay for a “Business” plan. You saying it’s an improvement doesn’t make it so.

    Thanks darnelldibbles for that!

It’s all I wanted. It isn’t widely known because people are going to great lengths writing code to force redirection.

Now, how do I get the old stats page back?

@reverendhellfire you do not need to upgrade to the Business plan. Please read what Staff (staff-doublebassd) mentioned just above your post to see how you can continue using the Classic Editor on your free WordPress.com website.

    @wessexsolidarity
that’s a request that’s already been made in the unified navigation thread sticky at the top of our forums.
