Restore Content From Godaddy Deleting Content

Hello, I have a blog website with wordpress.com. My domain is through godaddy. It was brought to my attention that as of July 2022 all content has been deleted due to billing (old card on file) and because it is past 30 days they can not restore content. I am reaching out to see if WordPress can restore content. My last blog post was in April 2022 and I have had this blog for 6 years and I cant fathom having to start over.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there!

Please do not create duplicate threads. I’ve removed your other posts and will reply to you here.

To avoid confusion, there are three different “WordPress” at play here:

    1. The free, open-source WordPress software which powers your website.
    2. WordPress.org which is the open-source project that works on the WordPress software and where you can get the software for free to use on your own hosting provider.
    3. WordPress.com which is a managed hosting provider of the WordPress software and with whom you’re contacting now.

Since your site was not hosted with us here at WordPress.com, we’re limited to what we can help with and advise.

WordPress the software has no backup capabilities – you need to find a service or plugin that would create backups for you. The other source of backups would be from your hosting provider if they automatically make backups (some do and some don’t). Since it sounds like GoDaddy already removed your content due to the billing issue, unless you had set up a backup solution previously and kept that subscription current, I’m afraid your content is lost.

You may be able to use the Internet Archive to search for a cached version of your site that you can use to copy and paste the content into your new site as you rebuild. The Internet Archive can’t be used as a way to restore your content – it’s simply a snapshot of your site on whatever day they made that snapshot. You may find that images may be broken as well since the original site doesn’t exist anymore.

I hope that helps! Best of luck.
