  It appears that my website has become ‘read only’ and editing is not possible because the website (free) plan has expired. Please advise.

  Correct account: Yes

  The free plan on WordPress.com does not expire, so you can continue editing your website.

  If you’re logged into your WordPress.com account, you’ll see the Edit button on your homepage. If you don’t see it, you might not be logged in. Please try logging in and checking again.
