Restoring delted blog/reusing deleted blog url?

Hi,
I know this has been asked a lot before and it seems like a dead end but I’m really hoping something can be done. I don’t know much about wordpress at all but have been after my perfect blog title for ages. It was in use but hadn’t been updated since 2009. I tracked down the owner of the blog and he very gracefully gave me his log in details to take over the URL (which I am now using to write this question). Me being the idiot I am I thought that was as simple as deleting his blog and then registering the domain under my account. In my excitement at getting my long sought after blog title this is what I did.
I knew that the blog couldn’t be recovered but I didn’t realise no one could use that URL for a 2 years afterwards. What I’m asking is is there anything at all I can do to correct my mistake? I don’t want another URL and I have the log in for this account (if that helps?) but know that deletion is permanent. Please someone give me an answer other than ‘nothing can be done’ because this has been the culmination of a lot of work trying to get this URL and now it’s been snatched from the jaws of victory by my stupid error.
