Restoring original header art

I accidentally deleted the original art that is on the header for Matala theme. I really like it! How can I get it back?

It is a background image that you are referring to.

Please be aware there is no such thing as a theme reset button on free hosted WordPress.com blogs. Whatever you change in Appearance is what you have to undo yourself, to restore the theme to the way it was before you changed it.
Go to Dashboard > Appearance > Background
http://beautifulremembrances.wordpress.com/wp-admin/customize.php?return=%2Fwp-admin%2FRemove the background image you uploaded and remove any background color you set there and the original graphic display will reappear.

As you can see that theme has been retired and themes are retired when they no longer support all wordpress.COM features. You can continue to use it but the recommendation is to switch themes to a newer one.
re: switching themes
Note that switching themes https://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/#switch-themes can be easily done, provided you are logged in as Admin under the same username account that registered the site. Themes are just “skins” on WordPress.COM hosted blogs. You can quickly and easily change themes on any WordPress.COM hosted blog to another one found here http://wordpress.com/themes/ and no data will be lost or negatively affected by the change. The only time you may have to do a lot of work is if you are changing to a dramatically different theme with different features and/or if you have done any CSS editing.
Provided you are logged in as Admin under the same username account that registered the blog go to Dashboard > Appearance > Themes, Browse themes until you find one you like and click the “activate” or the “preview” link, or type in the name of the theme you want to use when it appears.
The theme customizer https://en.support.wordpress.com/customizer/ provides a preview function for exactly that purpose ie. so you can view what a theme will appear like prior to changing one.

Thank you! I was not able to get the “Matala” heading restored and your second post explains why. So sad as I was especially happy with the artwork, but onward I go. That will teach me to post more often as while I was away apparently everything has changed! I followed your instructions to preview a theme update. The one causing the least disruption to my original content is “Cerauno” however all my photos are now misaligned so will need to figure out how to correct that once I choose to activate. Note: the correct address is CHICKENurture.wordpress.com (BeautifulRemembrances is my other blog which I guess will need to be updated as well). It is very kind of you to take the time to provide detailed instructions to help me out!
