Restoring wordpress site

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hello,

My previous company contacted me as a site I used to work on has now disappeared and has been replaced by another companies web page.

I’m assuming they did not renew their wordpress subscription as when I logged in there was no trace of the website. While working there I remember using updraft plus to backup the site. I found these backups in their google drive but could only see images when I downloaded one.

I know we also purchased a theme from themeforest.co.uk, which I’m guessing would need to be purchased again to restore.

So my question is, does anybody have any advice on the best way to go about restoring this site or if it is at all possible to do. Any help would be really appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Izzy

You don’t reveal the name of the site in question but as it sounds like a self-hosted WordPress.org site, staff here at WordPress.com would have no access to it anyway. If you worked on that site did you pass on the log on details when you left and did anyone keep note of when the domain would expire and the name of the company the domain was with? Those are the sort of details you’ll need to make any progress at all with this issue.

    Hi,

Thank you for your help. You are right we were using a self-hosted wordpress site. For some reason I cannot login to the wordpress.org site using the old login details, but I can login to wordpress.com. Could that be because we were on a premium plan that has expired?

I have found the details of the web hosting site (http://www.dreamhost.com/) but not where we brought the domain name. We still seem to be paying for the hosted domain even though another company is now using it.

Here is the address of the site:

Thanks for your help so far.

Oh dear. This is what can happen in the Wild Wild Web. Was this the site you are talking about:-

I presume they weren’t selling clothing. The domain must have lapsed and someone else snapped it up in August 2016. Hopefully you can make use of the backups you’ve got but you’ll need to tell your previous employers they have to start again with a new site I’m afraid.

    Hi,

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. Thanks for your response. Yes, your right, after having having a look into it I found that there domain expired and someone else brought it.

    Thanks for your help :)
