restrict admin functions

Hi,
i’ve been trying to understand where i’m going wrong here, but i’m going around in circles.
I have an “Author” level user that i just want to be able to add new blog posts, but he has access to all sorts of other functionality such as creating new team members, calendar events, popups and all sorts.
Is there an easy way for me to remove all the functionality I don’t want him to have or to find another way to allow him just to create blog posts?
