Restrict smilies to certain users

Hello I want to have smilies enabled or disabled based on what the user role is, or based on membership level from the plugin Paid Membership Pro. What I am trying to do is make a chat room that allows guests to use, but only people who are a role of “Subscriber”, or a membership level of “Gold” can use wordpress smilies. So far I have tried to modify the function.php in wp-includes, but I have not been able to get it working. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I’m afraid you’re in the wrong forum. This support forum is for free WordPress.com blogs. You appear to have a self-hosted WordPress.ORG install. WordPress.com and WordPress.org are completely separate and different: http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
