restructuring an old blog
-
Evening. I used to run a wordpress blog on my own domain. I have backups of the sql database, as well as all files from the website – downloaded via ftp. Sadly the one thing I never did, was to backup via the wordpress function to an .xml file.
Now I want to restructure all my old posts, on a new free blog on wordpress.com. Is this a possibility with the backup files I have?

I have just been through a search but I did not find what I was looking for. It was on this issue – how to import old blog material… :(

What about other free blog systems? If they allow import from sql you can import your post from that system to wordpress. It is an extra move but if it works…

oh, what a great idea! Thanks, will try that. (I still hope someone will answer my original question though)

I’ll try emailing him or finding out if he can help. If only wordpress had a .sql import option!

Just to throw my 2 cents in, if you have a *.sql file, email support and ask them if they can import the file for you. Do *NOT* just send them the file as there’s a special layer of hell set aside for those folks who do that. I think the support address strips attachments anyway. (Donncha mentioned that once to me in passing but that was eons ago.)
That’s the only way we have available to import a *.sql file.
I’m glad you were able to get this worked out.
