Retiring a WP.com blog gracefully: Migration from .com to .org site
-
I plan to move content from a WordPress.com site to a self-managed WordPress.org site.
I plan to use 301 re-directs and got good advice here: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/301-site-re-direct-to-ssl-site.
This is more an SEO than technical question…
What are best practices for retiring the old WordPress.com site gracefully? In particular:
– I’d like to keep the old site up for a while, so anyone looking for the home page can still find it during transition.
– But I don’t want to incur Google penalties for duplicate content.Does anyone have any good advice or any sites to recommend I look at?
