retrieve data from expired wordpress.com blog
-
I let a domain expire at wordpress.com and I’d like to retrieve the pages and posts from a sub-domain of that site.
the site was alchemyoftheword.me (points to alchemyoftheword.wordpress.com)
the subdomain is alchemyoftheword.me/hathorthelema
I can’t access the website or the admin panel

Hi there. I’ve flagged this thread for Staff assistance so they can remove the domain from your blog. Please subscribe to this thread if you haven’t already, and be patient while waiting for a staff member to assist you.
Once a staff member has removed the domain, you’ll be able to export the data from Dashboard > Tools > Export.

alchemyoftheword.wordpress.com is no longer available.
The authors have deleted this site.
This might be part of your problem – gone is gone forever
Blogs never expire at WordPress.COM

auxclass: thanks for that. I didn’t notice the “no longer available” message as it flashed quickly before redirecting to the domain name.

Yes this was a bit tricky –
But alchemyoftheword.me/hathorthelema is not a legal sub-domain and that address is not one that is legal at WordPress.COM (not a real sub-domain) – so they might have something else hidden on the web with another host – their domain alchemyoftheword.me is registered with Wild West Domains (WordPress.COM) and is in the renew period – some registrars set the domain name back to themselves when a person fails to renew a domain name – breaks the web site and tends to get peoples attention – to do the export they will need to address the domain renewal issue or they could get some of the info by FTPing to their other host maybe – but that would be info they would need to get help at WordPress.ORG to do

A bit more work with Google and yes they had a WordPress.ORG install with a domain name they purchased here, no info probably left here, I suspect that the info is still on their old host, so they would need to either renew the domain name long enough to export the contents or get help at WordPress.ORG on how to retrieve the contents without having an active domain name – an interesting project

Do you want to renew the domain alchemyoftheword.me ? or remove it from your account?
Deleted blogs cannot be restored or reused. Deleting a blog is permanent and the name cannot be used again. There are several warnings about this on the Tools -> Delete Site page and in the help pages, and you are required to confirm the deletion by email.

I’d like to delete it. But I want to retrieve the data associated with it (particularly the hathorthelema subdomain) first. The domain expired before I got a chance to do that and now I can’t access it. That was my bad, I wasn’t paying attention to the date.

Removing alchemyoftheword.me won’t delete any data. The blog associated with that domain has already been deleted (7 months ago) and can’t be restored.
