Retrieving An Expired Domain

  Hello there!

  My domain expired on August 15 (about 70 days ago). My site has been down since then, and I cannot seem to understand how to renew the domain again and bring back my old site with its complete content. The site is hosted by BlueHost. I usually login through a wp-admin, but that login is currently inaccessible (as well as all of my files) since the domain is lost.

  I saw on the WordPress support forum that there exists a 90 day grace period where the domain is not yet necessarily released, and I will just have to pay an extra fee to retrieve it once more. I would really love some help with this, because I would really like to have the site back! How can I retrieve my old domain, along with my complete website with all of its posts?

  @chinslip the 90 grace period you’re referring to is in regard to domains hosted by WordPress.com. If you’re hosting through BlueHost then this does not apply to you. It sounds like you’re using WordPress software from WordPress.org as opposed to an all-in-one website with hosting from WordPress.com.

  You must contact BlueHost for any domain-related issues.

  Hi chinslip,

  bengusto.com expired on 2017-08-15 and is currently in the redemption period:

  Domain Expiration

  We can still try to recover bengusto.com but you will need to pay an $80 redemption fee in addition the $26 domain costs. If you agree, I can send a payment request for that amount and contact our domain registrar once it has been paid.

  If you don’t want to pay the fee you can wait until the domain is released, although this can take 80 days or more. There is also no guarantee you will be the first to register it again.

  Please let me know which option you would prefer.

  @xpurichan — please modlook all domain redemption questions for staff. Domains can be registered through WordPress.com and pointed to a site hosted elsewhere.
