Retrieving my domain

  I’d like to know how to get my domain name back. I had WordPress but I deleted it awhile ago. I went onto Wix and I’m trying to use the same domain name I used with WordPress, but I can’t figure it out. Please help

  Hi there,

  Are you speaking of johnscottlawrence.com?

  That domain will only become available again after it expires in May and go through the 80 day redemption process.

  Cancelled domains are not released immediately, and it can take anything from a few days to over a year before a cancelled domain becomes available again, if at all. You should never cancel a domain that you still want to use, as there’s no guarantee that you’ll be able to use it again somewhere else in future. Only cancel a domain if you’re completely sure you no longer want it at all.

  If you still want this domain we can restore it to your account. Then you should be able to transfer it to Wix if you prefer to have it registered with them going forward.

  In order to access the settings for a domain on WordPress.com the domain has to be connected to an active WordPress.com site. As you’ve deleted your original site, we’ll also need you to create a new free site first, before we can restore the domain:

  https://wordpress.com/start/site/

  Please reply here to confirm if you want us to restore the domain, and also give the address of the new free site you’ve created to which we can restore it.

  Yes please restore my domain, but how can i make a free website with a domain that is “parked”. It won’t let me use that domain.

  Hi there, Since you deleted your original site, you need to create another free site so that Staff can restore the domain to that site’s dashboard. Use the link that @kokkieh provided and post back here when you’ve done that.

  @johnscottlawrence you can use a name like this: https://whateverdoesnotmatteranythingwilldo.wordpress.com

  And a free plan will do. As @justjennifer mentioned, please update us here when you’re done.
