Retrieving my domain name

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hello everyone !

In December I made the mistake of letting my domain name expire, after changing web host.
I was hoping to get the first year discount for new purchase (at this point in my life any penny counts…), and since I found no information on how long it took for the name to become available again I assumed it shouldn’t take so long, that I just had to make sure no one bought it before me. My mistake.

Now I’m told it can actually take quite some time…
Do you have any idea on how I could get it back ? Since it is for a professional website I use as a portfolio and get asked for more and more often, it would mean a lot.

Thank you and have a nice day !
    Camille

    Hey there,

Can you share the Domain Name so that the team can investigate further?

For most TLDs registered through WordPress.com, an expired domain falls into a grace period for about ten days to two weeks. During this short window, the domain can be renewed at the regular price. If you experience difficulty renewing your domain during this time, you can contact Support for additional help.

After the grace period ends, your domain enters the redemption period, the length of which can vary. This means the domain name can still be renewed, but there is an $80.00 redemption fee required in addition to the normal renewal cost. (This is standard practice for domain registrars.)

You can find more information here https://wordpress.com/support/domains/domain-expiration/

    I hope this helps

    Hi,

thank you for your quick response ! The domain name is camillefritsch.com

I read on the link you sent that “once your domain expires, it can be unavailable for up to 90 days”. Since it’s been almost 70 days already, I suppose I could just wait a bit more and try to be quick when it is released again ?

    Thanks for your help !

  • Your domain camillefritsch.com expired on December 28. We sent several email warnings both before and shortly after it expired.

Domain expiration is a lengthy and complicated process that takes about 90 days. You can learn more about expired domains here: https://wordpress.com/support/domains/domain-expiration/

The good news is that we are still able to recover your domain, as it is currently in the Redemption period: https://wordpress.com/support/domains/domain-expiration/#redemption-period

A late renewal fee of $80 will be added to the regular price of renewal. This fee is charged by our domain partner and is not one which we can waive. That’s in addition to your annual domain renewal from us, so the total is going to be $98.

I have sent a payment request for the total of $98 to the email address on your account. Once the payment is sent, please reply here to let us know, and we will send a note to our domain partner regarding camillefritsch.com. This process only takes about 2-3 days start to finish.
