Retrieving Old Domain
-
This isn’t really a question as much as a request, but WordPress is requiring me to post in the forum, so here goes.
I got fed up with trying to figure themes out (don’t need advice on that anymore), so I decided to delete my site and restart. Problem is, the domain I used initially is now ‘unavailable’. The site is pretty pointless without that original domain name, so I’m hoping the good folks at WordPress can help me retrieve it.

I’ve restored the site you just deleted for you. Did you just want to empty it instead, or start over with a different theme?
If you want to delete pages and posts, you can do that here:
https://wordpress.com/pages
https://wordpress.com/postsAnd you can remove images here:
https://wordpress.com/mediaIf you want to change the look and feel, head to My Site > Design and you’ll find some options there. Let us know if you need help.

So ideally, I’d just use the domain name from the old site with the new site that I’ve already begun working on. Is that possible?
-
It’s not possible to change a site’s address to an existing site address, so you would need to instead export https://wordpress.com/support/export/ and import https://wordpress.com/support/import/#import-content-from-another-word-press-site the content.
-
Okay, so it looks like all my pages were imported, but the design is unchanged. Do I have to redo the design from scratch or is there some way to import that too?
-
Good morning –
The import and export process only works with content. It would not move design elements like the theme. You’ll need to set the theme up on the site. Let us know if you need any help with that.
