How can I retrieve our old blog site. It has been a while since we updated it (around 2018) but when I checked, it is now gone.

I’m afraid that, your site was not hosted with WordPress.com. It was a site using the open-source WordPress software (from WordPress.org) but hosted with elsewhere. To recover it, you might contact your host.
Because WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two entirely separate entities, we cannot access files or data for sites that are hosted elsewhere, so WordPress.com staff can only assist with sites that are hosted on our servers.
