Retrospective date change on posts since Daylight Savings change
-
Since we changed to Daylight Savings in my state on the weekend, all posts published in the last 6 months (i.e. 1 April to 30 September) in the hour before midnight have been date shifted to the next day (to accord, presumably with the current time.) So now, for example, most of my Monday posts (which I often post around 23:30 to 23:45) are showing as having been published on Tuesday. I would like the record to be correct. I don’t believe this has happened in the past.
Has this happened to anyone else?

@whisperinggums can you double check to be your timezone has a city within your state?
https://wordpress.com/settingsYou could also manually specify the UTC offset.
-
Thanks time thief and supernovia. Yes, I checked the timezone in settings and it has Sydney, which is the same timezone as mine.
If I manually specify the UTC offset, that would mean changing it each daylight savings time change wouldn’t it? And the point is that that the times-thus-date change has been changed retrospectively. DO you mean I should go into every post over the 1 April to 30 September period and change the UTC??
My guess is that this has happened across the board but I noticed it because I know that I have a Monday series and that mostly I schedule the posts for between 23:00 and 23:59. I can send you a screenshot of the INSIGHTS stats showing the pattern, but I don’t think this Forum enables attachments?
-
Supernovia. Here’s an example: when I look – using quick edit in the Admin view – at a post published on 28 August at 23:45, it shows that time and date. BUT when I look at the INSIGHTS display it shows no post for Monday 28 August, but one for Tuesday. It’s not the end of the world, as it’s just a display thing. Clearly the problem lies somewhere in the stats system (JetPack?), that this retrospective thing is happening, and not in the WordPress admin area, which has retained the actual date and time of the post.
-
If your city is correct it should work. I didn’t know whether your city was correct, so I was asking that first, but also pointing out that you could offset manually.
We’ll check into this for you.

@whisperinggums I re-read your thread here; my apologies; I’d been working through some other time zone issues and had those on my mind.
Do understand correctly now, that your posts published during standard time have had their time stamps updated to what they would have been had they been in DST all along?
-
Hi Supernovia. Yes, that’s it, in the INSIGHTS display. Those published during standard time have all been moved in the INSIGHTS display to what they would have been had they been published in DST. The actual date and time on the individual posts, when I look at them through the Admin system, has retained the original time, so for example:
A post I scheduled for September 4, at 23:45, is still showing that date and timestamp when I click on Quick Edit for it in the Dashboard All POSTS Display BUT in the INSIGHTS display it is showing as having posted on Tuesday 5 September.
However, in the WordPress App on my iPad, i.e. not the browser, the INSIGHTS display shows it correctly as having posted on Monday 4 September. In other words, on the WordPress App, the INSIGHTS display is accurate, but in the browsers (I’ve checked both Safari and Firefox), all those posts published between 23:00 and 23:59 during standard time now display in the INSIGHTS record, according to what that time would have been under our now DST time.
Is this clear? It’s not life-and-death but it’s irritating when the record doesn’t reflect the truth!

I filed a report, but would you be willing to try another browser to confirm whether you see this issue there?
-
Thanks supernovia. Just confirming that it looks like it’s related to the browser implementation of WordPress. The INSIGHTS display is incorrect via Safari and Firefox on my laptop, and via Safari on my iPad. It is correct via the WordPress app on my iPad.
-
Hi Supernovia, I didn’t see your request when I posted the above response. I did mention in my earlier comment that I’d tried Firefox AND Safari. However, after your latest request, I’ve tried Opera Mini which I also have installed on my iPad. It displays incorrectly like the other two browsers. I’m not keen to load more browsers into my system so are three browsers enough?
I could send a couple of screenshots if necessary.

You bet. I will say this may end up waiting til someone’s working on a stats-related project, so it might be a while. But we will update you here. I’m asking now if there’s any other information we’ll need.
-
Looks like we’re all set on info; we were going to have you try temporarily offsetting the time manually to see whether that makes any difference. I’m guessing, though, since it’s working in the app, we’ll need to find a fix in the browser.
As I mentioned, it’ll likely be until a developer is working on a larger stats project, so it might be a while. Thanks again for bringing this to our attention, though. We might not have noticed it otherwise, since so many folks scheduled their posts for mid day. We’ll let you know when this is fixed.
Cheers!

Oh, could you also get a screenshot of this in the browser and on the app so we know exactly what you’re referring to? We’re still discussing this here and want to be sure we’re all on the same page.
You can upload the screenshots to your media library and update us here.

Here are the screenshots:

I hope this helps – and that I’ve interpreted them correctly!

So, when you look at the Browser screenshot, you will see one post in August still displaying as Monday – that was 21 August and I published it at 22:00 not after 23:00 like the others. Hence its display is still showing as Monday. (Every now and then I do post a bit earlier in the night!)
Of course, this has happened for posts on other days (I’ve checked a couple) as I often schedule for late at night, but the Monday ones are obvious because I have a regular Monday posting pattern.
