Returning to WordPress.com from WordPress.org?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Originally started a blog on WordPress.com. Switched to WordPress.org because I thought I wanted to have advertising. Realize it’s more work than I have time for and would like to switch back to WordPress.com because of the advantages of: higher traffic and tag surfer. Is it possible to return? If so, how? Thanks for your help.

    Free hosting and a great. community :). In your wordpress org blog go to tools export. Then in your com blog go to tools import. Note: any embeded videos or Html stuff will be removed. Only basic HTML like bolding is accepted here for security. Finnally if you had any YouTube or vimeo videos you can embed them with a shortcode (found in support docs). Any other videos you can use vodpod.

    We aren’t clear about whether or not this user has a wordpress.com blog that’s being domain mapped to a wordpress.org install now or not. It’salso possible that this user does not have domain mapping and the “root” blog at wordpress.com has been deleted. If the latter is the case, then the user will have to signup for another wordpress.com blog.

    Please provide more details.

    You can certainly bring your content back into wp.com, as previous replies show. I don’t think that you will be able to get your old url back, thought. When I went to:
    http://toforgeahead.wordpress.com/
    I saw that the blog had been deleted. So I looked up the documentation on deleting a blog:
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/delete-blog/
    I saw that “If you delete a blog you will not be able to get it back and no one else will be able to use that blog name. You must be sure you never want to use the blog again if you delete it.”

    Anyone else reading this thread and thinking about leaving wp.com might want to consider making the wp.com blog private, rather than deleting it.

    However, you will need to be branded with a big wp.com for being a non-believer. :) Okay, so not really…

    @Andrew
    I’m considering migrating my personal blog back to wordpress.com. It’s currently being domain mapped from a wordpress.com root blog. As it’s not a high traffic blog and I don’t really care about additional features, plugins, blah, blah, blah … I’m thinking that paying to have it third party web hosted doesn’t make much sense. I can keep the domain and domain mapping and have wordpress host it free of charge.

    thanks! — ok, here are the details….. i have another wordpress.com blog. losangelessinglemama.wordpress.com. it is not domain mapped.

    so, if i move my wordpress.org hosted — losangelessinglemama.com to wordpress.com, then would i domain map the wordpress.com site so that i could just use losangelessinglemama.com as the site address from then on?

    if i do that, then do i have to delete the wordpress.org blog so there aren’t two sites people are going to?

    does that make sense? i’m sorry, i’m not technically inclined….
