Returning website to former appearance after expiration

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi, I registered golimetry.com a year ago. I let this expire recently. Today, I re-registered the domain name (ie paid for re-registration). However, when I go to golimetry.com, I am redirected to the staging website. The Themes and Plugins I used to have are gone.
    (1) How can I get those themes and plugins back – ie how can I revert the website to how it looked ?

Secondly – when I make a post now, the post appears on the staging website. Rather than golimetry.com. How can I make sure that my posts appear on golimetry.com again, rather than the staging site ?

So basically I want to revert the appearance and interface of my site, back to how it was before the domain expired. If possible I would really appreciate the help, thank you very much.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there, If you’ve renewed your Business plan, you are eligible for Live Chat support https://wordpress.com/support/live-chat/#how-to-access-live-chat-support and that would be the quickest way to debug this issue. Please contact Support through the link at https://wordpress.com/help/contact

If you are not an Admin on that site, please post back here and let us know so we can flag this thread for Staff assistance here in the forums. Thanks.

  • Hi @pfnmonaghan1

I can confirm that you have recovered your domain, and golimetry.com is once again under your account. You can confirm here: https://wordpress.com/domains/manage/golimetrycom.wpcomstaging.com

I can also see that you purchased the monthly version of the WordPress.com Business Plan, which I think you intended to add to your
Golimetry Football site (golimetrycom.wpcomstaging.com) but instead have added to a second site on your account instead. You can confirm here that this new site is the one the Business Plan appears on: https://wordpress.com/plans/my-plan/golimetrydotcom.wpcomstaging.com

Do you wish to move the Business plan to the correct site, so you can set up Golimetry Football (golimetrycom.wpcomstaging.com) to be as it was before your upgrades expired?

Secondly – when I make a post now, the post appears on the staging website. Rather than golimetry.com. How can I make sure that my posts appear on golimetry.com again, rather than the staging site ?

Once the correct site is upgraded to the Business plan, you will be able to reactivate all previously used plugins or themes. As well you have access to the business plan backups, and can easily “rewind” the site back to how it appeared just before your upgrade expired.

Thanks for confirming you would like to move your Business plan to your Golimetry Football site (golimetrycom.wpcomstaging.com) so you can proceed with that. Thanks!

    Hi there,
Thanks very much for the helpful replies. I would like to return the site to golimetry.com (the URL which I used to have the website on). Would that be possible ? And to return the old themes and plugins which I used to have, prior to the expiration ?
Thanks very much. I will also check out the live chat too.
    All the best

I may have registered the business plan, by accident, to golimetrydotcom.wpcomstaging.com, rather than golimetry.com. Can this be changed, so that the plan applies to golimetry.com ?
(I have posts elsewhere, and links elsewhere on the web which will now, I think, redirect to an incorrect URL).
If I could get my primary site to be golimetry.com again, that would be very useful. Again thank you for the assistance and all the best.

  • Hi there,

I’ve moved your plan to the correct site, and I’ve downgraded golimetrydotcom.wordpress.com back to the free plan. Please go to the Purchases page at https://wordpress.com/me/purchases and make sure to add a payment method to the Business Plan so it will auto-renew at the end of the month.

Your domain, golimetry.com, is now the primary domain again, and correctly loading your site. You might need to reactivate your plugins, though. If you need help with that, or want to restore a backup from before the previous plan expired, you can open a new support request at https://wordpress.com/help/contact and our team can help you there.

Awesome, thanks very much. So, is there a way to get my old theme back, that I might be able to do myself ? Or is there a way you guys can find out what my old theme was ? (The theme before the domain expired). Sorry, but I cannot recall what the Theme was actually called. I will also put in a support request as you indicated.

Thanks so much once again, you’ve been a great help.
    All the best
