Reuse deleted blog name owned by me

  • Unknown's avatar

I made a blog named “Weterede!” http://weterede.wordpress.com and I started to use it. I only wrote 4 or 5 entries to know how wordpress works, to decide if I will choose this platform to develop my blog. When I decided to choose WP, instead of deleting each entrie, I decided to delete the blog to create the same one again. Now I discovered that we can not reuse names of deleted blogs.

But if the blog was mine, is there a posibility to reuse the same name?

Ok, I found the answer: NO

WordPress staff, please consider to add the feature to reuse your own deleted blog name.

Always, always, always, always, make sure that deleting a blog is what you really want to do. If you think it is, mark it as private and just let it sit there for a while. You aren’t paying for the space, or the service, it can quite literally sit there for years and will still be there if you want to start it up again.

And when you try to delete a wp.com blog, you get VERY clear warnings re the consequences.

    This is stupid, seriously.
How can we wipe a blog and start anew?

  • There are bulk editing actions on all of the major screens to delete posts, comments and users if you wish to re-start your blog from scratch.

Here’s what’s written on the Delete Blog page:

If you do not want to use your WordPress.com blog any more, you can delete it. This CAN NOT be undone. It is permanent.

Do not delete a blog to re-import or to remove entries. Contact Support for those issues.

Do not delete a blog to transfer ownership – read this FAQ entry.

Do not delete a blog to ‘free the name’. That does not happen.

    If you are sure…

[ ] I’m sure I want to permanently disable my blog, and I am aware I can never get it back or use (blogname).wordpress.com again.

There is a second set of warnings shown when you receive the confirmation email. I don’t see how we could make it any clearer.

    markymarkqc,

Too late for you now, perhaps, but to others who want to clear a blog:
delete all the posts and pages of your blog,
    then start anew.
(comments will disappear when the posts/pages are deleted)

You can apply “bulk actions” to edit posts (or pages):
dashboard > edit posts (or pages) > check posts (or pages) that you want to delete > bulk actions (edit or delete) > apply
