Reusing Deleted Blog Name

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hello,

I successfully deleted a blog months ago.

However, I need to create a new blog using that deleted blog name, because I found a new purpose for that same established name, so coming up with a new name to resolve this issue would be misfitting.

Even though visiting that deleted blog understandably says, “The authors have deleted this site”, when I consequently try to “Register Another Blog”, I confusingly am halted by:

    “Sorry, that site already exists!”

How do I properly resolve this issue?

    Ample thanks in advance.

How do I properly resolve this issue?

    You can’t:

Deleting a site permanently removes it and you’ll never be able to reuse its WordPress.com address

BTW, you have received several warnings before the deletion. Even an e-mail.

BTW, the “several warnings” (and email) I received in conjunction with my reasonable assumption towards possibly reusing blog names (for the more-obvious reason of why that could be useful — basically some names effectively beg to be reused) in conjunction with ample database experience (this issue can likely be promptly easily resolved with a single database command) in conjunction with knowing that exceptions to the rule are important (and this one offsets the legitimacy of zero-tolerance blog name reuse) leaves me with one frustrated reply here amplified by your negative tone…

The warnings successfully conveyed the absolute destruction of the site (and its data and configuration), as can be sanely expected, but not the blog name in terms of usage (a zero tolerance policy, as you link to herein, buried in ample support documents likely escaping any reasonable attention — including that of the commonly busy person).

The policy is inappropriately extreme. Conventional wisdom concludes the customer (i.e. user in this case) is always right, so why should I not be able to reuse a blog name upon formal request (especially one for which I own the corresponding ‘.com’ domain, but prefer to keep that pointing elsewhere) and accept the “several warnings” of the unlikely (if not zero, at least certainly in this case) risk of negative activity from such reuse?

I don’t mind paying a reasonable fee to have a database administrator run a command to free up the blog name.

At the very least, chalk up this reply as part of the informal ‘suggestion box’ that hopefully is being respectably acknowledged in consideration of any user’s ability to examine relevant competition for at least a properly nice tone that should be standard in support cases such as this one.
