Reusing someone else’s deleted blog domain

  Hello. I’m wondering if it’s possible to use a deleted blog domain when creating a new blog on wordpress.com? For instance I want to use the domain doragonboru.wordpress.com but when I try to create it I get a message saying it is not available. However, there doesn’t seem to be a blog attached to that domain so I’m assuming it was removed or deleted. If that is the case would other users be able to use the domain name?

  I’m sorry, but we do not recycle blog names on WordPress.com.
  Once a blog is deleted, that change is permanent and nobody (even the original owner) can revert it back.

  You may want to consider custom domain upgrade if you are not able to find a *.wordpress.com subdomain that is available.

  You used to be able to years ago. I guess they must have changed.

  Not in the four and a half years I’ve been here. As far as I know they’ve never done it.
