Reusing the domain of a site I delted

I previously created a site oberlinomta.wordpress.com, but deleted it as I thought I had messed up something in the creation of the website. I want to rename my current site to that, but it won’t let me do that, saying that it’s already in use. Is there a way around this?

If you lost your password, you can use this tool, be sure to enter the email you used for your old website – https://en.wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=lostpassword

Thanks! However, this is not the exact issue I’m having.
I created oberlinomta.wordpress.com with this account, I just deleted the site. Is there a way to regain the old site domain? Both the links you sent deal with lost passwords.

Also, you will need to transfer your new website after you retrieve your old account. You can do that by following these steps – https://en.support.wordpress.com/transferring-a-site-to-another-wordpress-com-account/
Finally, I just wanted to mention you could avoid all of this by purchasing a domain. You can see if your domain is available here – https://wordpress.com/domains/add/

Sorry, that missed the warnings while deleting your site. Once you delete a site you can’t use the same address again. See https://en.support.wordpress.com/delete-site/ for more details.

@oberlinomta if you are trying to recover a subdomain.wordpress.com domain it is not possible after deleting.
Is that what you are trying to do?
