Revenue generating ads on a WordPress blog

  If I want to eventually place ads on a blog that will generate revenue for me, do I need a certainly level of account for my blog? I thought I had read that a basic account does not allow this, but now that I am ready to start setting up a blog, I can’t find that anywhere.

  If you require other advertising, you might be interested in a self-hosted (WordPress.org) installation. There are no restrictions on advertising if you setup a self-hosted WordPress.org blog instead of a WordPress.com blog, but there are some added responsibilities.
