Revert back to previous theme
-
Hello,
I recently created another website for a school project. I was selecting a theme for the new site, but WordPress defaulted to my previous site and changed the theme. I did not want to change the theme on this site. I was using Contempt, which is now retired. How do I change the theme back to Contempt?
I was going to reactivate the website, and start writing again for it, but not if I can’t get the theme back.
Seems like there would be a theme history where you can easily switch back and forth….
Thanks

The Contempt theme was recently retired. I think you might be able to get it back, but to do so I believe you’ll need assistance from staff. I’ll tag the topic for staff attention.

studentofminamo , you should be able to see it here:
https://mtgcommandzonedotcom.wordpress.com/wp-admin/themes.php?search=contemptmusicdoc1, if someone has used a theme in the past, they should be able to find it in the Appearance > Themes page in their WP Admin dashboard without staff assistance. How that works may change some day in the future, but that’s how it’s setup right now.

Hi,
I was using sela theme. I decided to try resonar. All my links and pages got deleted. Would it be possible to revert back to my previous blog? I really don’t want to redo everything. The blog I need help with is christenmattix.wordpress.com.Thanks.

In the last week I have had two bloggers who were not able to use retired themes that they had used before.
This is what I searched and found and posted:
Unfortunately, it now looks like when a theme is retired, it is no longer available to anyone, not just on new sites that have been set up. https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/where-can-i-find-the-semicolon-magazine-theme?replies=6#post-2304116
Please follow-up this thread:

timethief, what I’ve written below still stands. From my testing and what I know right now, someone should be able to go back to a retired theme if they have selected it before on the same blog in the past using the WP Admin > Appearance page. Also, as I mentioned, that could change in the future, so advice going forward could be to check in WP Admin but that there are no guarantees that retired themes will always be available going forward.
My guess about the two bloggers you talked to who were not able to find retired themes is that they were probably searching the theme showcase instead of from inside the WP Admin dashboard.

I found out a little more info which may be helpful. Newer users will not get the option to go back to retired themes. So that could explain the two you ran into before as well.
Going forward, I would explain it like this:
You can check for a retired theme in WP Admin > Appearance > Themes to see if you still have access, but there are no guarantees that retired themes will always be available going forward. New themes are always getting added and those are the ones that are actively maintained and are likely to work better both in regard to being responsive as well as being updated to work with newer WordPress.com features.

Sounds good. :)
I would encourage everyone to look at the newer themes anyway. There are a TON of great choices!

@designsimply
I use only responsive layout themes. It never ceases to amaze me how blogger can get attached to old themes. They are only “skins”. And I wouldn’t dream of using a retired theme that does not support all WordPress.COM features. -
