I tried to upload a custom header to my blog – Twenty Fourteen theme, however, now I will like to revert back to the original theme and I have deleted the one uploaded in my library. how can I remove the existing one as it still showed up.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Go to Appearance ->Customize ->Header in your dashboard. There should be an option saying Hide image. Click on that and the header image should disappear.

  • I’ve tagged this thread for staff to follow up. Please subscribe to the thread so you are notified when they respond and be patient while waiting.

  • Hang on. I quickly viewed your blog and I don’t see a custom header there, so it could be restricted to your browser. Clear your browser cache and cookies and check if the image still appears. http://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/

    Hi there,

Sorry for the trouble. I removed the broken header image from your site.

In the future, please go to Appearance > Customize > Header to remove the custom header image before deleting the image from your Media Library. That will avoid the issue you experienced here. :)

    Hi rachelmcr,

Sure thing! If you have a custom header image and you want to remove it, you can follow these steps:

    1. Go to your My Sites page and click the “Customize” link under your site, or to go Appearance > Customize in the site’s dashboard.
    2. In the Customizer, open the Header section.
    3. You’ll see your header image under “Current header.” To remove it, click the “Hide image” button there.
    4. Click the “Save” button at the bottom of the Customizer to save the changes.

That will remove your custom header image from your site. You can then delete the image from your Media Library if you no longer want it there.

Please let me know if you have any questions about that. :)
