Revert to Classic Editor

  • Unknown's avatar

I foolishly tried the Gutenberg editor, quickly decided it wasn’t for me, and now seem unable to get back to the Classic Editor properly. Now every time I add a post I have to tell it I want to use the Classic or it defaults to the Gutenberg. Worse, I am no longer able to copy posts – it simply won’t load the list to select from. How on earth do I get back to the old editor without extra faff every time I want to draft a new post and with the ability to easily copy an existing post?

As usual, every time WordPress makes a change, they do it in such a way that it causes endless hassle. I should know better than ever to try any of the changes out – they are never an improvement and just mess up the tried and tested ways of working.

    Hi,

It is possible to switch back to the Classic Editor (TinyMCE).
    When you edit/create a page/post
-Click on the three vertical dots in the right top corner.
    – Click on the ‘Switch to Classic Editor’

That should make the Classic Editor default.

    – bests,

Thank you. However, when I click on the three dots, there is no “Switch to Classic Editor” option listed.

Secondly, this doesn’t answer my point about the problem of being unable to copy a previous post.

Perhaps someone from the service team could look at this and respond?

  • I know this isn’t the main question you had, but…

To get a staff member to view your post, you can add the “modlook” tag to it. The following page shows how.
    https://en.support.wordpress.com/getting-help-in-the-forums/#how-do-i-get-a-moderatorstaff-reply-for-my-question
Once you have already posted, you can go back and add the tag in the box seen on the right of your post. I have done so for you for this post.

Hope you get the help you need!

You are right. The new editor is so bad, I started to look for alternatives to WordPress.com.

  • Hi there,

However, when I click on the three dots, there is no “Switch to Classic Editor” option listed.

Are you going to the editor via My Site ->Blog Posts, or directly from WP-Admin? That option only appears in the My Sites editor.

You can also disable the block editor from the banner appearing in WP-Admin at https://fictionfanblog.wordpress.com/wp-admin/. If you don’t see it, click on Screen Options and make sure the New Editor box is checked.

Worse, I am no longer able to copy posts – it simply won’t load the list to select from.

The Copy Post feature has not been added to the new editor yet, and it won’t work if you select the Edit with Classic Editor option in WP-Admin. You’ll need to completely deactivate Gutenberg to us that feature.

I search the forum as to not waste the time of the WordPress staff, but I have been through this post and I have NO clue on how to revert it back to the original editor.

I’m so pissed, the new version is having issues with uploading images. Intuitive features such as delete or cancel are no longer around, and I can’t upload a featured image. I tried to, but nothing is happening….. is this a beta?? I’ve had so many issues, and the UI is no improvement, and it seems more like a visual design thing to be more minimal looking.
