Revert to Draft on iOS Mobile App?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hello,

When viewing an already-scheduled post in the iOS WordPress mobile app, I am unable to find a button to “Revert to Draft” like there is in the browser version. Is that function not in the mobile app, or am I not looking in the correct place?

    Thanks in advance!

    Hi helloimamanda,

There is an option to revert a published post or page to a draft:

    1. Go to the page editor in the app
    2. Click on the three dots at the top right
    3. Click Options
    4. Set the status to Draft
    5. Click save

    That should do the trick!

    Hi Gemma,

Currently, I have a post I had already set to privately published, and scheduled for a future publish date. This is the one I’m trying to set to a draft.

When I go to that post in the mobile app and click Edit, then the three dots, then Options, Status does not respond when I tap on it. I’m not sure if that’s a bug, or intended behavior for some reason.

I figured out if I make it public instead of privately published, when scheduled for a future date, I can switch it to a draft.

Maybe my question should be, if I have a post scheduled, but status set to draft and not scheduled, does that mean it will not auto-post if I forget to finish it and that date comes and goes?

Good grief, I am not explaining this well! I will be more specific with my terminology.

When I have a post’s publish date and time already set on the post – so for example next Tuesday at 6:15pm, but the actual Status says the word Draft and not the word Scheduled, and I forget to finish the post and leave it that way, does it go public and published on Tuesday at 6:15? Or stay a hidden draft unless I switch the Status back to say Scheduled?

    Hi helloimamanda,

Not to worry, sometimes these things can be hard to explain :) I’ll do some testing with my phone and app just to make sure there aren’t any bugs. This might take me a little time but I’ll let you know how I get on.

    Speak to you soon!

    Hi helloimamanda,

if I have a post scheduled, but status set to draft and not scheduled, does that mean it will not auto-post if I forget to finish it

If you schedule a post, then go back and set the status to ‘draft’, it will not publish after the scheduled date/time has passed. The post will remain a draft until it is published manually or scheduled again.

When I go to that post in the mobile app and click Edit, then the three dots, then Options, Status does not respond when I tap on it.

I haven’t been able to reproduce this issue. Which device, iOS version and app version are you using?

    Ok, great.

I am using an iPhone 6s, iOS 10.3.2, WordPress app version 7.7. I was just able to reproduce by setting an already scheduled and draft post to Private, then hitting Save. When I go back into the Options, tapping where it says Status: Privately Published doesn’t do anything. However, I can set Visibility back to Public and then alter the Status, so maybe I’m just approaching the situation incorrectly and the app is functioning as intended.

    Hi helloimamanda,

I see what you mean now, thanks for describing your steps. This is expected behaviour in the app. Privately published posts can’t be scheduled, they can only be published immediately. Once a post has been set to private the status option is disabled.

If you have any further questions, just let me know.

OK – that makes sense! Thank you. :)
