reverting from custom to free domain in wordpress.com
-
If I cancel my custom domain will I be able to revert back to my free address in wordpress.com without losing any content from the blog?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Yes but every link to the domain URL will be broken no matter where it appears on the internet and that includes in search engine results. Anyone who clicks the domain URLs will experience a 404 page not found error. The blog will have to start from zero again all authority and pagerank earned under the domain URL will be lost, when removing domain mapping and reverting to the sub-domain URL.

In case I did not telegraph this clearly via my last comment purchasing a domain URL for short term use is not recommended. Unless you actually intend to blog over the long term don’t do it. These posts of mine may help:

thanks. I now understand the issue with external references. I have two other questions related to this
1. will the links to the media files be lost or will they migrate seamlessly from elliotnoma.com to elliotnoma.wordpress.com if elliotnoma.com ceases to exist?
2. when elliotnoma.com exists can I still point links to elliotnoma.wordpress.com and will previous links to elliotnoma.wordpress.com/… still work?
