Revertng from the horrible new ‘blocks’ version.
-
Dear WordPress,
I want to revert entirely to the ‘classic’ editor I have been using for years, and which was ideal for my requirements.
Your email includes what seems to be an indication that this is possible —
‘You can opt to use the Classic editor. Not ready to try the new WordPress editor? No worries — you have the option to use the Classic editor in WP Admin.’
— but there seems to be no way of actually getting to this via ‘WP Admin’.
Can you please tell me what I can do? The new version you have made is of no value to me.
Thank you,
Mark D.

Hi,
This link will show you how to get to WP Admin.
https://wordpress.com/support/dashboard/
You can try to access the Classic editor using this link.
https://wordpress.com/support/editors/
There is also a Classic block that is similar to the Classic editor.
https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/blocks/classic-block/
The classic editor is being retired.
https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-com-classic-editor-deprecation-faqs/
Here is information about how to use blocks.
https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/
Using blocks with a little practice you may find is not as difficult as it might seem.

The new editor does not do what I want. My blog is about content. I want to write and add some images. If you don’t give a clean and easy option to keep the old editor I will have to look for another platform. What were you thinking??? Does WordPress take account of user opinions?

We have tips for transitioning from the classic editor to blocks https://wordpress.com/support/switching-from-the-classic-to-the-block-editor/ and FAQs: https://wordpress.com/support/replacing-the-older-wordpress-com-editor-with-the-wordpress-block-editor/#frequently-asked-questions
And, if you really want to use something like the classic editor, we recommend sticking with the classic block: https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/blocks/classic-block/
For more details, please see https://wordpress.com/blog/2020/08/13/the-classic-editing-experience-is-moving-not-leaving/
We do recommend the new editor though, and we have some extensive documentation available at https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/

Yikes! The new blocks editor is awful! I was managing okay until today and some necessary [for me] functions are no longer there. I want to be able to make images the same size, but the size numbers no longer show up. That is no good. Please turn the sizing numbers back on.
-
@thegenealogygirl I’m not sure what you mean by “sizing numbers” can you explain? You are trying to set the image to be a specific size?
The image block does have some sizing options that you may not notice at first, so if you click on the image block, look in the sidebar on the right including the option to set a specific image size (in pixels)
This is difficult to explain in words, so I recorded a quick video to show you how to change the size of an image in the image block.

staff-totoro, thank you. That is helpful, but it was better before. You could grab the corner of a photo and size it down and a little number would appear next to the corner and change as you made the image smaller or larger. I’m guessing the number was pixels, but I don’t know for sure. What I know is that when I was putting multiple images in a post, I could use that feature to quickly size all images to the same width without any extra clicks. Loved it.

You are referring to the classic editor/classic block, yes?
When I try on a test post, I can resize images in exactly the way you describe. I recorded a video of myself resizing image by “grabbing the corner” which you can see here: https://d.pr/v/RVdm4a
The video I recorded was in the block editor (but all text and images were within the “Classic Block”) but I also tried in wp-admin using the classic editor option there, and it also had this ability.
You are not able to resize images by dragging them if you try to do it like you see in my video?
-
@thegenealogygirl I also wanted to add that you can re-size image blocks by dragging with your mouse as well. You can see in the video I have recorded here: https://d.pr/v/aDcfN6
You may notice in my video that in addition to dragging the images to resize them, you also have the option to click on them (one at a time) and type in the specific size you want the images to be, so they are exactly the same size every time. Hope this helps!

I am not happy with the new editor. I work really hard on my images to get them just so.
But with the new editor my full width images look just fine in edit mode, but when I publish they are too small.
This never happened with the old editor. I would select “large” and they were perfect. -
Hi, there.
You can still use the “classic editor” fron the WP Admin.
Go to your WP Admin (https://example.wordpress.com/wp-admin)→ Posts→All the posts→ and…Cheers.
