Reviews and stars

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi, I want to invite my client to write a review about my treatments on my site/blog (massaggiocaliforniano.net).
So, I’ve notice my theme have a template called “testimonials” that appearing appropriate to do that, but…

    1) I need my client login from Facebook or G+ (none has a wp account) so the review can be truthfulness, because of a people that exist, non anonymous. About this I visited a page that explain is possible to do a comment with a fb/g+ login, so I suppose it’s possible in the “testimonials” page too, isn’t true?

    2) I need can be recovered from Google search like a Rich Snippet with stars, but in the testimonial page I didn’t see the option to rating with stars like a review. How can I do?

    3) about ranking I activated ranking in the pages and blog, then in Google Webmaster Tools, I’ve highlighted records in data highlighter but alert me that cannot recognize the ranking.
Is the wp.com rank type not compatible with microformats?

    Thank you

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there,

    1) I need my client login from Facebook or G+ (none has a wp account) so the review can be truthfulness, because of a people that exist, non anonymous. No, it isn’t possible for someone to log in using Facebook or Google+ to add content to your site. Those are only options for commenting on the site. To add content (such as a testimonial page) users need to log in to a WordPress.com account.

However, testimonials are not meant to be direct reviews that reviewers enters on your site themselves. They are meant to be testimonials that you received and then posted on your site. If you want people to leave their own reviews directly, I would recommend using the comments section for that, so people can leave comments there.

    2) I need can be recovered from Google search like a Rich Snippet with stars, but in the testimonial page I didn’t see the option to rating with stars like a review. How can I do?

Because you have ratings enabled under Settings > Ratings in your site’s dashboard, your testimonials will also have the option to be rated once they are published on your site. However, I can’t guarantee that Google searches will display those ratings in their search results.

    3) about ranking I activated ranking in the pages and blog, then in Google Webmaster Tools, I’ve highlighted records in data highlighter but alert me that cannot recognize the ranking.

It’s possible that the WordPress.com ratings feature is not compatible with the microformats that Google uses, and so they won’t be displayed in Google search results. I can let our developers know about that, but the ratings feature is a relatively low development priority right now and so I can’t promise that any changes will be made to how it works.

Thank you Rachel for the explaining.

Yes, the only way for me to obtain review from “true” people is with comments logged in. But the stars rating cannot be done from the same person that write the review, maybe from a different people when read the comment later. But remain a rating about the review non about my work.

maybe my english is not very well, do you understand?

I think I understand. Do you mean you want to disable the star rating on the testimonials page so people can’t add a rating there?

    mmmhhhh… no

What I mean is: if a people do a comment can give or not give star rating because the star rating is a vote on his comment. In fact appear after you enter the comment. That star rating is for other people that read the comment and want to rate it. Is not a vote on my massage treatment.

and is not necessary use a testimonial page, any other static page is the same because if logging in can be possible for reader, must give comment. Testimonial text are different field without logging in, aren’t true?

There isn’t a way for someone to give your service a star rating when they leave a comment. Ratings are completely separate from comments, so you can’t limit the rating only to the person leaving a comment.

Testimonial text are different field without logging in, aren’t true?

Testimonials are a specific type of content that you create on your website, like blog posts or pages. You have to be logged in as a user on your website to create a testimonial.
