Revisions option missing

  • Unknown's avatar

The app somehow deleted my entire post I was working on and then saved it, and of course, I don’t have an undo button on my phone so I couldn’t just quickly undo it. I tried to find the go-to previous revision options via a bunch of google research and youtube videos, but all of them say that the option is just missing from my WordPress. I’d like to be able to get my rather long draft back without having to rewrite the entire thing… Help?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi Shadami,

Here’s the WordPress support page that describes how to see revisions:

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/editors/page-post-revisions/

Does this shed any more light ?

    Nick

Sadly no because I was using that guide and that’s how I know the option is completely missing and I don’t know how to fix it.

  • Hi –

Thanks for getting in touch. Please let me know which version of the app you are using.

There’s been other reports recently of content going missing and we are trying to track it down.

Can you tell me the exact steps taken before the content disappeared?

  • Please send a link to the post or share the post title so we can take a closer look too. Thanks :)

Oh goodness, I meant app as in chrome app on my phone sorry about that. The app itself frustrated me and I had uninstalled it months ago because it wasn’t working right for me. I don’t remember what my exact issues were with it, but I know the one instance that made me give up on it was that I published a draft, got comments on it, went to the computer a few hours later it had been unpublished and most of what I had written deleted.

The instance last night was with a draft and I’m not sure I can share a link to that because it is unpublished, I had been working on it for a month or so.

The steps I took before the content disappeared was I opened the draft that I wanted to edit, scrolled through to skim what I had already written, saw that my pictures hadn’t loaded in yet, because the chrome app struggles with that sometimes, but it was why I had written notes under each picture so that I could still continue typing while they loaded. Pressed on the spot I wanted to edit (no highlights just a single cursor spot) pressed one letter, and poof everything was gone. I went from over 1k words and around 50 pictures to a single letter r.

  • Hi there,

You have multiple draft posts on your site. If you give us the title of the draft, we can take a look for you. We don’t need a link, we can view the draft directly, but we need to know which one to look at in order to do that.

7Sins: Out on the town. I didn’t know if drafts could be seen or not. :] Thank you.

Thanks for sending the post names. I’ve checked the history for both but I’m afraid there are no previous revisions. This means the content was never saved on our servers and unfortunately, we are unable to recover it for you. I’ve passed this information on to our developers so they can take a closer look at what may have happened here.

Just to double check — has this only happened when you click/tap somewhere on the editor, rather than just loading the post?

It was when I went to type something and nothing was highlighted. So do my past revisions just not exist at all? How do I get that back/activated? They’ve definitely been saved before because I’ve been working on them for a couple weeks.

  • I’m afraid there’s no way to get that content back – they didn’t correctly save to our servers, so we don’t have that content to restore.

Our developers are working on tracking down the cause of this so we can stop it from happening, but for now, if you have any more drafts you’ve been working on for a while, it might be a good idea to copy them over to a text file in an app like Notepad, and continue working on them there until it’s ready to publish.
