Revoke Access

I’m wanting to temporarily block access to my blog so I can make some changes. Can I maybe display a message when a user clicks on my site. I know this can be done on wordpress.org via plugin but what about wordpress.com?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hello! You can temporarily set your site to private until you’re ready to make it available to the public again.

Go to your Dashboard and under Settings > Reading, set your site to I would like my site to be private, visible only to myself and users I choose.

daschultemn provided your answer but I’m sharing what I do and why I do it. Note that I never do this temporary chnage to private blog visibility when I register a new blog because it takes weeks for search engines to index the content in WordPress.COM blogs, and I don’t want a private blog entry appearing in search engine results, which is exactly what will happen if you do this.

I choose not to tell anyone what the URL is while I am setting up a new blog. As WordPress.com is a turnkey operation and as all blogs wearing the same theme use the same underlying template found on the live demo site, it doesn’t take long to set up a WordPress.COM blog. Those I help who have no blogging skills at all can have one up and running with 4 posts and 4 pages in 4 hours time.
