Right side not displaying
-
Very weird: right now the right side of the blog (the Widgets) are not displaying:
http://leisureguy.wordpress.com
But further down in the blog, all looks good:
http://leisureguy.wordpress.com/2007/10/
What is stopping the most current posts from displaying with the widgets? Any idea? (There’s a tiny smiley face, but I can’t find any weird characters.)
-
Let me look into it. Typically this is the result of something in a post, or in a widget being too wide for the theme.
The tiny smiley face is part of the stats system: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic.php?id=197

Many thanks. I checked the two most recent posts (it was fine before that), and didn’t see anything awkward. Widgets haven’t been changed.
-
Open each of the two most recent posts. Open them for edit, and do a select all on everything in the post (ctrl-a windows or cmd-a mac) and then go to the extended tool bar (click the last button on the right). About midway in the second row that appears is an icon that looks a little like a brush (blue handle). If you hover your mouse over it and it will indicate “clean up messy code”. Click this button. Then save the post and view your main page again. Do that with both posts.
In either of the last two posts have you copied and pasted anything in from MS Word or perhaps off of the web? Many times that will bring html code that can mess things up.

My blog again has the same problem of the widgets not showin on the top of the blog. I tried to trouble shoot it and could not. How do you trouble shoot it. Kindly help.
-
Okay, I tried the select all and then clean up messy code on both those posts. Still not working. I haven’t copied anything from MS Word or anything weird. I’m going to try some of the earlier posts and see if that will work.
Many thanks for help.

@moinansari
I don’t see any problem in Safari or in Firefox. Your sidebar is right where it should be. I’ll have to fire up Windows to look in IE.I would strongly suggest turning off the snow. It really messes things up. I think that script needs some work.

Got it! It was a <div> and </div> contained in a post I had copied. When I removed that, it all worked. Thanks.

@ leisureguy – There is definitely something wrong with one of the posts on that page. When I go back to previous posts, the problem disappears. Try setting the number of posts to display to 1. With that you should be able to see which post is the offending one.
@moinansari – I don’t see a problem with your widgets. I’m using Firefox. What browser are you using? (I do see a problem with the links in the post – they are extending all the way across the sidebar. Perhaps you could shorten them by using tinyurl?)

Vivian or sacred path:
I amd using IE 6.0. I turned off the snow, and set the display to ONE article and but cannot seem to find the problem. I also went through all my posts today and “cleaned code up” with the paintbrush. Can ou kindly help me troubleshoot.

I don’t have IE6 readily available. Could you, from your main page, go back one page using “previous entries” and let me know if the sidebar is OK?
-
Try this for me. Go to presentation > widgets and remove your “tag cloud” widget (make sure and click save changes) temporarily. If that does not bring the sidebar back, remove the “box.net” widget. The box.net widget wordpress script seems like it is acting up as my browser keeps telling me the script has stalled and asks me if I want to disable it.

@ moinansari
It’s the links you have in your first post, they are extremely long and causing the theme to “break.” You are going to have to do all those links as linked text. Open the post for edit. Go to the first link under “Criticism of Benazir Bhutto” and copy it to the clipboard (ctrl-c). Then highlight the “Criticism of Benazir Bhutto” text and then click the link button in the toolbar (looks like a couple of chain links together). In the popup box, paste the URL you copied into the “Link URL” field and click “insert. Then delete the link text from below that heading. Continue on and do this will all the links you have at the bottom of that post. That will fix your problem. -
