Rivington – Image Sizes for Slider +CSS for width

  • Unknown's avatar

Hello I have set up the Slider + Tiled Gallery as in Rivington, however mine is not flush left. Are my photos too small? Or is it a CSS setting? Please advise, thank you.

    Hi there,

It is kind of tricky when dealing with full-width column block in Rivington.
Here are the steps to help you:

    1) Delete the slideshow/tiled gallery and change the block type to a column type.
    2) Select the width setting to Full-width
    3) Add the second column via the right-hand panel (you can open it by clicking on the setting icon)
    4) Add the slideshow block or tiled gallery at the respective widget area.

I’ve uploaded the image to provide you with a clearer view of the settings:

    Hope this helps!

  • Hi there,

I assume you’re trying to recreate the look of the demo site’s front page, correct? There’s two issues preventing that here.

The first is that the columns block containing the slideshow on your site has no alignment set, while on the demo site it has full-width alignment set. To change that, edit the post, and click on the slideshow. The editor sidebar on the right should show you have a slideshow block selected.

Next press the up arrow on your keyboard until the sidebar show you have a columns block selected, with the editor itself showing a frame around both the slideshow and the image grid next to it. Now click the Alignment icon in the block toolbar, and select the Full Width option:

But secondly, the images can’t be displayed any bigger than you’re seeing them, because that’s how big the images are. As an example, here’s the first image in your slideshow if you load it directly in your browser:

That’s the maximum size at which it can be displayed – that image is only 590 pixels wide, while the slideshow block in this theme can display images up to 912 pixels wide.

Do you have a bigger version of that image available? If you do, try to upload an image that’s at least 1000 to 1200 pixels wide and use that in the slideshow instead. Otherwise the image will display at its maximum size without filling the entire slideshow on larger computer screens.

It might be possible to force the image bigger using CSS, but that will come with a severe loss of quality – it will make your image blurry, which doesn’t look good at all, so I wouldn’t recommend that.
