robots.txt

A couple of weeks ago I made a mistake of writing a post about blu-ray players on my site, as a result I received a massive influx of traffic as a result, at first I thought that was a good thing, but know it is making my blog look like it is a spam site. I have since deleted that blu-ray post and I am thinking about creating a whole separate home theater blog so I can talk about home theater without it interfering with my general site. Even though the blu-ray post has been deleted I am still receiving visits with search terms such as, “best blu-ray player” I want to know if I can add a robots.txt to my wordpress.COM site and if so how, and if not then what are my alternatives?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Question: I want to know if I can add a robots.txt to my wordpress.COM site and if so how, and if not then what are my alternatives?

Answer: We cannot access the underlying templates fro our wordpress.COM blogs and edit them so you cannot add a robots.txt. The only time they come into play on oyr blogs at wordpress.com is if and when we make selections that affect the visibility of our blogs through “privacy” settings http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/privacy-settings/

As you have deleted the page and it now produces a 404 (page not found) you can use the URL Removal Tool to remove the indexed data in the cache. Instructions for using the Google URL removal tool are found in this post http://onecoolsite.wordpress.com/2008/03/21/how-to-remove-data-from-googles-cache/
