Robots.txt problem
-
Hi WordPress support,
I am terribly sorry to bother you, considering I couldn’t find the French support team, you will have to deal with my awful English, I am afraid.
As a beginner in blogging – like…Really, beginner -, I am having troubles with the indexation of my website. Now that I finally switched from ‘private’ to ‘public’, whenever I type the name of my website in my engine, I get this for a message : ‘the description of the result is not accessible because of the Robots.txt’ (approximately translated from French). I have tried to check the robots.txt file, but I couldn’t get to modify it. How can I possibly get my website to be finally modified, so the description would at least match with the text of my homepage ? Because now, it is kind of…Well, not welcoming for the ones who’d like to read it.
Would you please help me ?
Best regards,
Akem. The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Edit :
I am so sorry ! Now that I moved my lazy brains to look a bit closer, I found the answer to this question in two other topics…I apparently just have to be patient. Well, sounds just good to me !
Marking the topic as resolved, I apologize again for having panicked so fast for nothing.
Have a nice day, XP community !

Hello again,
Turns out my topic was not that resolved after all.
I know for what I have read, I apparently just had to wait for the search engines to idex my blog, but…When I type the address, I still have the same message, telling me the robots.txt file is blocking the description of the website. Is there really nothing I can do about it ? I checked the robots.txt file, but I don’t really see where the problem is. The option “allow search engines to idex my website” has been checked as well for more than a month. So, do I have some sort of bug ? Is there anything I can do about it ?All the best,
Akem.

Hello Timethief,
Thanks for your message, I really appreciate you answered so fast.
However, it seems the end of my – quite strange – story has come : suddenly, Google noticed my website. Now, when I type the first words of the address, the “robots.txt problem” doesn’t appear anymore ! And the description is “readable” – I’m not sure this word exists.
I am not going to be very useful here : I have no idea of why it suddenly worked…But at least, I can testify waiting sometimes is the solution !
Thanks again for answering me, now I’ll put this post in “solved” category for good,Akem.

Hi @akemsyl , no worries on your English. It’s better than my French, for sure. For future reference, we do have lively forum here : https://fr.forums.wordpress.com
About your robots.txt file, it looks correct. Basically it says block the sensitive parts of the site, but otherwise allow search engines. So, you will need to wait until they look at your site again.
But you may be able to hurry things along a bit by verifying your site with Google’s Search Engine console. Here’s how:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/webmaster-tools/#google-search-consoleIf you use Twitter or Facebook, feel free to put the site in those profiles, and share your latest articles. In fact you can share new articles automatically if you’d like, using wordpress.com/sharing . That can also help bring a bit of attention to your site, and a bit of attention can help bring in search engines, too.
Want to try all of that and let us know if it helps?

@akemsyl ah, I see your reply now :) But maybe those tips will still help you. Best wishes!

Hello Supernova,
Thank you for your advice ! I’ll remember it if I happen to have other similar problems later. Or to help another person with them, if I may be useful ^^.
I’ll have to work on the social networks as well. So much to do left ! I’m far from being done with this blog yet.
Thanks again for your help – and for excusing my English. And well, I don’t know how your French is, but if you ever need some help with it, I’d be happy to assist you in return !
Best wishes,Akem.

Thanks @akemsyl, honestly I only learned a few phrases. So yes, yours is much better no matter what. But the French forums would love you for sure, so if you ever feel like helping a fellow WordPress-er out, jump on in! And let us know how it goes!
And no worries on the mispelling of my nickname. It’s just a pun anyway. Cheers :))
