Rogue YouTube Videos Appear in my Post

    YouTube videos that are not mine are appearing below this post for IE users. Has the blog been hacked? Is this spam? I don’t see anything unusual in the HTML. Are these videos ads? They definitely don’t look like ads.

    What can I do to make these disappear? We are a nonprofit that serves children so I don’t want anything inappropriate to pop up! Thanks in advance, Wits

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    If it’s an actual YouTube, can you give us a link to the video itself ON youtube? Because I’m using Firefox and can’t see a video there, so I can’t help you.

    I have the same thing happening to me. The video is being displayed by media.sharethrough.com. You can see this in the following post http://plainphotography.com/2012/05/03/the-trip-home/. The video shows up at the bottom and only shows up if you aren’t logged in to wordpress.

    Thanks, raincoaster. I use Chrome and it doesn’t show up there either.

    I will try to get the YouTube link although it seems to be a rotation of several videos

    Here

    PlainPhotography must be right about media.sharethrough.com because there’s a SHARE logo at the beginning of each one. I hadn’t noticed that.

    Thanks!

    Here is some more information. A view source on the page shows the following:

    <script type=’text/javascript’ src=’http://partner.googleadservices.com/gampad/google_service.js’>
    </script>
    <script type=’text/javascript’>
    GS_googleAddAdSenseService(“ca-pub-3443918307802676”);
    GS_googleEnableAllServices();
    </script>
    <script type=’text/javascript’>
    GA_googleAddSlot(“ca-pub-3443918307802676”, “wpcom_sharethrough”);
    </script>
    <script type=’text/javascript’>
    GA_googleFetchAds();
    </script>

    And then:

    GA_googleFillSlot(“wpcom_sharethrough”);

    Okay, those ARE ads put there by WordPress.com. That’s why they show up when you’re not logged in, but don’t if you are. The only way to prevent ads from showing on your site is to buy the No Ads upgrade, and I recommend it to all my business clients, profit and nonprofit.

    WordPress.com has been running advertising on our free hosted blogs since 2006. Many bloggers do not know this because despite the fact they ticked the box required to get a free blog, they did not read the ToS. Many also do not read features page, or advertising entry in the support documents after registering their username and blog(s). Also note that as the ads do not display to us when we are logged in, and as many use browsers with ad blockers when logged out, they may not realize they are there at all. The only way to get rid of all advertising on our free hosted WordPress.com blogs is to purchase an annually renewable No-Ads upgrade.

    If you feel an ad is inappropriate please take a screenshot of it and send it to Staff by emailing support@wordpress.com or upload it into your Media Library where Staff can view it.
