Rollover effect using CSS

With the Premium license can I add a rollover effect on images in an image gallery using CSS?? I would also want these images to be clickable…each image should be able to take me to different pages in the site. Can this be done without using plugins? I’m using the Twenty Seventeen theme. I know that there are various Image Hover Effects plugins but they require an upgrade to the Business plan. Thank you!

  • Hi there,

The reason that you see this option as a plugin typically (or sometimes designed right into the theme itself) is because it’s not possible to add this via CSS alone.

To pull this effect off requires more than CSS, so the only way to add an image rollover effect on your site is via a plugin.

Also one thing to be aware of is that rollover effects to not work for people who are visiting your site from their phones or tablets (since they don’t have a “mouse” there is no way to “hover” over an image) so a plugin is needed so that a fallback is provided for visitors that don’t have a mouse and can’t see the effect.

Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.
