Rowling Theme; Featured Image Display on Home Page

The featured images are displaying in various sizes on home page including top/bottom of image cut off. Desire to have a uniform look with all images in same shape/size.

    Appreciate your help with this.

Hi there, your images are not the same height to width proportions. For them to show all the same size on the main page, they will have to be all the same width to height proportions. With images that are not the same width to height proportions, we would have to create CSS rules for each and every image, and with different proportions we would not be able to have the entire image show. Some would have to be cropped so that they would display at the same size.

Rowling seems to look the best with images that are 2:1 width to height. Example: 1200px wide by 600px high. Rowling will work with any proportion image though, but to have the sizes look consistent, you will need to have them all the same proportion. Examples: 4:3, 3:2, 2:1, etc. If you look at the Rowling Demo site, all the images are 2:1 proportions.

Can the images be edited/cropped to get to the 2 to 1? I went into a post and edited the image and the directions were as follows:
    ==============================
    SCALE IMAGE Scale Image Help
    Original dimensions 590 × 421

    New dimensions:
scale width 590× scale height 421

    IMAGE CROP Image Crop Help
To crop the image, click on it and drag to make your selection.

    Crop Aspect Ratio
The aspect ratio is the relationship between the width and height. You can preserve the aspect ratio by holding down the shift key while resizing your selection. Use the input box to specify the aspect ratio, e.g. 1:1 (square), 4:3, 16:9, etc.

    Crop Selection
Once you have made your selection, you can adjust it by entering the size in pixels. The minimum selection size is the thumbnail size as set in the Media settings.

Had trouble with getting the aspect ration to change to 2 to 1 (holding down shift key – was that for entering the new dimensions in the aspect ratio boxes provided?

    Please advise
    Thanks

Went in and figured out how to crop/edit and save. Initial downside is that gifs may lose their animation if resized. Any thoughts? Thanks

The gifs would need to be edited in an animated gif program on your computer. The WordPress image editor does not have the programming to edit them and keep the animation. You would then need to upload the new images and insert them as the featured image for the posts.

You know, this is just my own thought, but in general I would suggest using animated gifs sparingly as featured images. The reason is that too many moving objects on a web page has a tendency to pull a user’s attention away from the content and can also cause loss of concentration. Just something to consider. :)
